A partner in the law firm Karro, Sellers & Langson since 1985, Seth Langson began focusing his career on sexual abuse cases after a therapist referred him a desperate patient. The resulting lawsuit against a psychiatrist and related medical center not only changed the direction of Seth’s law practice, but also how North Carolina deals with an important part of state law called the statute of limitations. The outcome of Seth’s case greatly improved the likelihood that victims of sexual abuse could win compensation from their abusers.
Since that first case, professionals from across North Carolina have referred Seth their most complex sexual abuse clients. While the medical malpractice issues he handled before were more lucrative, the satisfaction and inspiration gained from helping victims led him to devote all of his legal expertise to sexual abuse cases. More than 20 years later, Seth has helped scores of clients win settlements resulting from sexual abuse.
In addition to defending the rights of his clients in court, Seth works zealously to give victims of sexual abuse a voice. He works extensively with Charlotte-area therapists and the national group SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests), and stays in contact with lawyers throughout the country on issues involving sexual abuse in general and abuse by the Catholic Church in particular. He also speaks at professional seminars nationwide on the topic of recovering from psychological and sexual abuse.
Seth is a volunteer with A Child’s Place, a non-profit group dedicated to helping homeless children attend public school. He also works with high-school and college students involved in mock-trial competitions, helping students learn more about the U.S. legal system.
