Boy Scout Leader

One young man’s destructive behavior resulted in Seth Langson gaining compensation for both the man and his brother – victims of the same abuser.

The abuse came to light when the man, now 25 years old and being questioned about destructive behavior patterns, revealed that a Boy Scout leader had molested him as a young teenager.

After confiding in his older brother about the abuse, the man learned that the same Scout leader had also victimized his brother. Like so many other predators, the Scout leader had befriended the boys’ single mother and had become a father figure to the boys.

Seth accepted the case even though it faced difficulties with the statute of limitations. He directed the victims to the police. Criminal charges resulted, and the abuser accepted a plea bargain that included prison time. When the molester did not appear to begin his sentence, the police discovered that he had committed suicide.

Nevertheless, Seth proceeded with civil action against the local and national Scout organizations, and the matter was settled at mediation on behalf of both brothers.
